The 17th general elections, normally referred as GE17, was held on Saturday, 17 December 2022, for members of the 17th Parliament of Malaysia. At the of all 30 seats in the Dewan Rakyat (the legislature's lower house). The end to the state of absolute monarchy was announced by the outgoing interim Prime Minister ArifTAldana at a joint press conference with the Istana Negara (National Palace) on 3 December 2022.[7]
Background
After the state of absolute monarchy was proclaimed by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong Inzun of Johor on 22 August 2022[8], the federal government of Malaysia was subsequently replaced by the government of absolute monarchy of Malaysia led by then interim Prime Minister ArifTAldana. The state of absolute monarchy also suspended the lower-house of the parliament which vacated all 30 seats of the house.
4 months later, on 3 December 2022, the state of absolute monarchy would end after an proclaimation signed by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong Inzun of Johor.[9] Moments later, the elections commission would announce the writ of election.
yaoshiiscool returned as the chairman of Parti Demokratik Malaysia (PDM) on 15 October 2022 after his previous successor AlfyJQuentin subsequently resigned. HykarlJLanderieu succeeded mrteddybug as the 3rd chairman of Barisan Rakyat Malaysia (BRM) on 8 September 2022.
Un_Confron, a former member within PDM, left the party during the political crisis and formed his own coalition, Pakatan Tanah Air (PTA) which originally consists of 4 parties, Parti Anak Sarawak Bersatu (PASB), Parti Tanah Air Progresif (PHP), Parti Buruh Malaysia (MLP) and Parti Berjuangan Malaysia (PBM). MLP and PBM were both withdrawn from the party.
Electoral system
The system adopted by MYS Malaysia in elections is noticeably different from real-life. Voters in Roblox do not vote for local state legislatures. Thus, the ballot used by voters to cast their vote only directly impacts legislation on the federal level, therefore electing representatives in Dewan Rakyat.
The Dewan Rakyat, after the Third Amendment to the Federal Constitution (Act 90) which passed the house on May 7 2021[citation needed], increased the seats in Dewan Rakyat from 26 previously to 30. The majority required to control the confidence of the house also changed from 14 to 16.
The entire electoral process and the distribution of seats to running parties is to be overseen by the Election Commission of Malaysia (EC, or more commonly referred as SPR) which is managed by the Administration.
