The Democratic Party of Malaysia (Malay: Parti Demokratik Malaysia; abbrev: PDM) is a political party in Malaysia. It is a dominant political party which has been the federal government of Malaysia and dominated the politics since its formation in 2019 until Arifafeef (or ArifTAldana) became the first prime minister from Parti Perjuangan Rakyat in 2020, and the first prime minister to have tenures with two different parties. Following Arif's resignation caused by multiple Parti Perjuangan Rakyat ministers resignations just shortly after 3 months of Parti Perjuangan Rakyat's term, PDM subsequently rejoined the government with several ministerial positions.
History
Formation
Parti Demokratik Malaysia is the successor of Parti Perikatan (PP) which was dissolved after the 2019 Suruhanjaya Pilihan Raya Regulation which dictated that any parties that contested in the 8th General Elections could no longer share any similarities to any parties found IRL (in real-life) due to concerns over copyright infringements and confusion with real-life organisations. Founded on 10 September 2019 by politician Arifafeef (ArifTAldana), he was also the first Prime Minister candidate of PDM.
2019
In 2019, PDM first made their electoral debut by participating in the 8th General Elections with Arifafeef as the Prime Minister candidate and PROBLOXALIEN as the Deputy Prime Minister candidate. PDM, during GE8 was regarded as the merger of multiple political parties before the formation of it. PDM faced Gabungan Nasionalisis (GN) which was also created after the SPR regulation, led by Secret_Intelligence as the Prime Minister candidate. PDM won GE8 with 11 seats in the Dewan Rakyat, achieving a simple majority and forming the first PDM government. Notable members of the PDM cabinet included Alif14Irfan, MRPOMPEI, iiSpaceRocket, Itz_Philpz and llewelltan3507.
2020
In April 2020, PDM ended their first term. PDM also underwent a major change in leadership, notably the change in the party chairman tu iiSpaceRocket, who also became the PDM Prime Minister candidate with Vermzy as the Deputy Prime Minister candidate in the 9th General Election. PDM contested against new opposition parties that were formed around the same period, such as; the Future Progressive Party led by Phoenix_Sushi and theUnited National Party (UNP) led by ZariffAdeeb. PDM won GE9 with 9 seats in the Dewan Rakyat, thereby forming a majority.[1]
Secret_Intelligence as 3rd Party Chairman
After the 2020 Anti Government Protests during the premiership of iiSpaceRocket which saw a brief political crisis and uncertainty with regards to public safety, Secret_Intelligence was selected by the party council as the 2nd chairman of the party. Around the same time, former chairman of the party Arifafeef left the party and formed Parti Perjuangan Rakyat (PPR) to tackle the instability of the previous PDM government. PPR soon entered a coalition with UNP to form the next government of Malaysia, which was also the party's first defeat in a general election since the formation of the party itself.
2021
KeonVonWolffe's re-election
In 2021, after the stunning defeat in GE10, iiSpaceRocket (now KeonVonWolffe) was selected again as the Prime Minister candidate of the party by the party council. KeonVonWolffe was reelected again as the Prime Minister on 3rd October 2020 with PDM winning 12 seats, forming a majority.
Secret_Intelligence as 4th Party Chairman
After the term ended for KeonVonWolffe's government, Secret_Intelligence was again selected due to him being one of the most prominent members of the party for PDM in the 12th General Elections. This time, PDM contested against Gagasan Perpaduan (GP) led by Demosistorean (previously llewelltan3507) and the National Liberal Party (NLP) led by MrBlue_Dragon868 who was later disqualified from the elections on polling day due to an alleged citizenship issue as reported by SPR.[2] PDM formed the 4th PDM government after winning 14 seats.
Labuan by-election

A by-election was held for Labuan after the disqualification of zack_ikiizz, the PDM candidate for the constituency of Labuan. It was the first by-election in the history of MYS. Running candidates for the seat of Labuan were OculusZen (PDM), king098654 (Progessive Front, PF) and warrior_7h (NLP). OculusZen was elected as the Member of Parliament for Labuan on 28 February 2021.
Secret_Intelligence's 2nd term
Secret_Intelligence remained the party chairman and Prime Minister candidate after his first successful term as Prime Minister. In the 13th General Election, PDM contested against the National Solidarity Front (NSF) led by JonasVonKanzaki and KeonVonWolffe now as an independent running for Lembah Klang after his departure from PDM. PDM won GE13 with 14 seats. Secret's 2nd term (combined with his first) would be the longest term (269 days) yet since Arifafeef's first term running under PDM (232 days).
Avillion_F1 as 5th Party Chairman
After Secret_Intelligence's 2nd term, he stepped down from contesting but still remains as a prominent member of the party. Avillion_F1 was selected by the party council and became the next candidate contesting in the 14th General Elections, which saw the formation of Barisan Rakyat Malaysia (BRM) led by Ahmad_Mus07 and the short-lived United Malaysia Party led by HHPrinceGeorge. PDM would later go on to win 18 seats.
2022
In 2022, Meer_ASPM became the next party chairman and candidate for PDM contesting in the 15th General Elections against Barisan Rakyat Malaysia, still led by Ahmad_Mus07. PDM would form a government after winning 18 seats, unchanged from the previous election.
